There was an interesting decision made in -66kg final of the "Millennium Team" European Judo Championships Cadets Grand Canaria 2026.
In the last minute of the match, Nikola Radanov (SRB) attacked Tom Simkhaev (ISR) with kouchi-makikomi. Almost simultaneously, Simkhaev attacked with sumi-gaeshi.
An ippon was given to Radanov because Simkhaev landed flat on his back. Although he was doing a sacrifice technique, Radanov had attacked with kouchi, so the score was attributable to him.
Although some people might argue that the best thing to do in such a situation is to cancel the score and to give neither player a score, EJU Head Referee Director EJU Head Referee Director Alexandr Jatskevitch explains why an ippon was given to the blue player.
