Agbegnenou to retire after LA Olympics

French judo legend, Clarisse Agbegnenou, an Olympic and six-time World Champion, says she will retire from competition after the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Agbegnenou also has two Mixed Team Olympic gold medals.

"I'm stopping after Los Angeles," the 33-year-old mother of two told L’Equipe. "I won't be able to give any more. I don't want to end on a bad note. I feel that the younger generation has been pushing hard for a long time. At some point, it would be unhealthy. I've already achieved everything. This is truly an added bonus."

Agbegnenou had recently given birth to her second child, a son named Dakota. However, she is planning to return to competition for the 2026 World Championships which is in October.

She plans to resume training at the end of April, and despite some weight gain due to pregnancy, she is determined to compete at -63kg.

In her interview, Agbegnenou said she will retire after LA2028 even if she doesn’t get the results she wants. “I’m already at peace," she said. "The journey has already taken me so far. I’m already so proud.”
