Jonathan Yang, Maria Laborde and Jack Yonezuka all won silver medals at the recent Lima Grand Prix.
Yang faced Michel Agusto (BRA) in the -60kg final. Only a small score of yuko separated them but it was enough for the Brazilian to prevail. Yang had to settle for silver but it's a great achievement for the 19-year old. This was his first Grand Prix medal.
Laborde had a tough opponent in the -48kg final, in the form of World Champion Assunta Scutto (ITA). Laborde was aggressive in standing but the Italian, who is a groundwork specialist, managed to pin Laborde to win the match. This is Laborde's seventh IJF World Tour medal and her second silver medal.
Yonezuka impressively won all his earlier matches by ippon. But in the final he became unstuck when Vlad Mitru (MDA) managed to throw him off the ground for a sumi-gaeshi ippon. The silver was Yonezuka's fourth ever IJF World Tour medal and his second silver.
