The British Strangle (also commonly referred to as the British Rolling Strangle) got its name because many British players (going back to the 1990s) like to use this technique in international competitions. It’s a technique Travis Stevens used frequently as well. In fact, he used it against one of the top favorites in the semi-final of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
One of the main challenges many players find is the rolling aspect of this technique. Many are fearful of face planting on the mat. Travis demonstrates how to do the roll in a safe and easy way. In this video, he also highlights the three modifications he made to the technique. Lastly, he teaches the proper ways to drill the transition from standing to groundwork.
